The Watauga River near the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwestern North Carolina overflowed onto the roadway on August 3 due to heavy rainfall in the area.
The National Weather Service extended a flash flood warning for Watauga County, among other northwestern counties, in a statement on August 3. Drivers were warned to stay off flooded roadways.
