Argentina’s senate has narrowly rejected a bill to legalise abortion with 38 senators voting against it and 31 in favour.

The footage captured yesterday (August 8) moments before the release of the votes shows a crowd of pro-choice supporters demonstrating outside the Argentinian Congress in Buenos Aires.

The defeat of the bill means lawmakers will have to wait until the next year to resubmit the proposal.

Currently, abortion is allowed in Argentina only in cases of rape, or if the mother's health is in danger.
