Médecins Sans Frontières said it was “relieved” after the Aquarius rescue ship, which it operates in partnership with SOS MEDITERRANEE, was granted permission to dock in Malta on August 14.
The ship was carrying 141 people rescued from the Mediterranean on August 10.
The UN Refugee Agency also welcomed the decision, but said the standoff highlighted the need for
a Mediterranean regional arrangement that provides clarity on where boats carrying rescued passengers can dock. Credit: Lauren King/MSF via Storyful
