Cochin International Airport in Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala, suspended operation on August 15, until August 18, due to heavy flooding in and around the airport.
“Operations temporarily suspended till 18th Saturday 2 PM since the inflow of water is still on a rising trend. We are working hard to drain out the stormwater,” the airport wrote on its official Facebook page.
At least 72 people have died in the Kerala flooding, among the worst ever recorded locally.
The floods have also caused transport chaos, disrupting train services, and forced the state to open 35 of its 39 dams — a first in history. Credit: Sarath S Nair Kottarakkara via Storyful
