According to a report by CNN, Kofi Anna, described as one of "Africa's foremost sons,' was the first black African leader of the UN, and will be remembered as a source of pride for many on the continent. CNN reports that Annan was jointly awarded a Nobel Peace Prize with the UN in 2001 for his efforts, brokering a crucial truce in the bloody aftermath of the Kenyan election violence of 2007.
