Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will be deferred until Malaysia can afford such a project.

Dr Mahathir says he has spoken to Chinese leaders on the matter, elaborating the the project will be restarted if the need for it arises in the future.

Putrajaya has ordered for work to be stopped on the ECRL recently after reviewing the details of the project.
