In the wake of the failure of Microsoft’s baffling Seinfeld-Gates ad campaign, the Redmond, Washington-based software daikaiju is unveiling a new campaign that responds to Apple’s “Mac vs. PC” ads.

The Apple ad campaign, officially known as “Get a Mac,” was launched in 2006. It features comedian John Hodgman as a stodgy, insecure PC and actor Justin Long as a cool, relaxed Macintosh.

According to the New York Times, the commercials feature a parody of the John Hodgman character.

The risky decision to recognize and respond to the popular Apple ads was made by Miami-based ad agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky.

Microsoft hopes to reclaim control of its brand image in the new ads, which will feature ex-CEO Bill Gates and actress Eva Longoria, but not Jerry Seinfeld.

The campaign begins tonight with ads on “Grey’s Anatomy.”
