A 61-year-old South Korean man tested positive on Friday for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS,... after returning to Seoul from Kuwait via the UAE on a business trip that lasted about three weeks.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday the patient, identified only as a Seoul resident, received treatment at the Samsung Medical Center in southern Seoul.
He was then quarantined and transferred to Seoul National University Hospital.
21 others suspected of having come in contact with him are also under quarantine.
They'll be tested and monitored for the next two weeks, the virus's maximum incubation period.
In response, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon has ordered an epidemiological investigation.
He will preside over an inter-ministerial meeting later today aimed at containing the virus.
The first case of MERS in Korea was confirmed in 2015,... and 38 people died... before the outbreak was declared over in December the same year.
