Spanish farmers go nuts for almonds as global demand booms

The global production of almonds has doubled over the past 10 years, thanks to its much-vaunted benefit as a superfood. Spain is the world's third biggest producer and expects a record harvest this season. Such is the boom that many farmers in the southern region of Andalusia are replacing wheat or sunflower fields with almond orchards. The objective? To one day compete with the United States, the biggest producer by far.
