Hongkongers woke to assess the damage on Monday, September 17, after Typhoon Mangkhut tore through the southern Chinese city and into China’s Guangdong province.

These videos and photos show the damage to buildings on the Siu Sai Wan promenade on the east of Hong Kong island.

Mangkhut, reported to be the biggest storm in the world so far in 2018, hit Hong Kong and southern China on Sunday afternoon, after wreaking havoc in the Philippines.

The Hong Kong Observatory issued a typhoon warning signal number ten on Sunday, but subsequently downgraded this to signal three as the winds settled on Monday. Credit: Tang Chi Hung via Storyful
