The nominee to become the next commander of U.S. Forces Korea, General Robert Abrams, has stressed that ALL activities within the demilitarized zone, including a reduction in the number of guard posts, are under the jurisdiction of the United Nations.
Speaking at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee this week,... Abrams stated that while the two Koreas continue their military dialogue,... all related issues must be mediated, supervised and implemented by the UN Command.
His remarks come after the two Koreas agreed to shut a number of guard posts on both sides of the DMZ
Abrams also insisted that withdrawing American troops from the Korean Peninsula could lead to grave strategic risks.
