China has confirmed it's holding the former head of Interpol, Meng Hongwei, for unspecified breaches of the law.
Meng, who is also Beijing's vice minister for security, was reported missing by his wife on Friday after she said she had not heard from him since he went to China at the end of last month.
Interpol on Sunday said it had received his resignation from the presidency with immediate effect, but did not say why.
Senior Vice President Kim Jong-yang of South Korea has been appointed as acting president.
