The #MeToo movement gained momentum in tamilnadu, when Popular playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada of 'Mayya Mayya' (film 'Guru', 2007) song fame, called out National Award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu for harassment, and tweeted about various instances when he misbehaved with young girls. She particularly cited her own experience that she faced with the lyricist during an event in Switzerland in 2006. She claimed that the organizers asked her and her mother to stay back while everyone left home. She was then allegedly asked to stay with the lyricist in a hotel room. "I asked why. He told me to cooperate. I refused. We demanded to be sent back to India. He said ‘You won't have a career!" she wrote on Twitter. This enraged his fans on social media, who trolled her for not speaking about the incident earlier. Some even said that filing a police complaint was better than just tweeting about it.
