Tracy Chapman Sues
Nicki Minaj for 'Sorry' Sample According to court documents obtained
by The Blast, Chapman declined signing off
on Minaj sampling "Baby Can I Hold You"
for a song titled "Sorry." On Aug. 11, Chapman claims
"Sorry," which included the
unapproved sample, was leaked to Funkmaster Flex
who teased the song on Instagram
and then played it on HOT 97. The song was allegedly played
on an additional radio show
before circulating on the internet. Chapman is suing Minaj for copyright infringement and is seeking to barr the "Barbie Dreams" rapper from using the
song again, as well as unspecified damages. Aside from a since-deleted tweet that
she was unaware "Sorry" contained
the sampled Chapman song,
Minaj has yet to comment on the suit.
