According to a report by Business Insider, on Wednesday, the Department of Justice confirmed that acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker will assume oversight of FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia Investigation. A DOJ spokesperson reportedly said in an email, "The Acting Attorney General is in charge of all matters under the purview of the Department of Justice." Reuters reports that Whitaker, a former US attorney from the Southern District of Iowa, is largely considered a staunch Trump supporter. According to The New York Times, White House chief of staff John Kelly reportedly once described Whitaker as the West Wing's "eyes and ears" in the DOJ.
