The European Union is expected to join Japan in filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization against South Korea for subsidizing its shipbuilding industry.
According to the WTO on Sunday, it was notified last Tuesday by the EU that it wants to participate in settling disputes with Seoul and Tokyo on the matter.
Japan initiated a complaint earlier this month arguing that Korea's government-backed loan guarantees and insurance for large domestic shipbuilders hit hard by a downturn... violate WTO regulations.
Japan says the measures hurt its own shipbuilding industry by suppressing prices and reducing sales volume in the international market.
