After constantly accusing Trump of fundamentally undermining the institutions of the Constitution, Democrats have put up a bill to fundamentally undermine an institution of the Constitution we call the electoral college.
All because precious Hillary lost to Trump so badly:
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), a vocal critic of President Trump, on Thursday introduced two bills to eliminate the Electoral College and prevent presidents from pardoning themselves or their family members.
Cohen introduced the constitutional amendments on the first night of the 116th Congress, both digs at Trump.
Presidents should not pardon themselves, their families, their administration or campaign staff,” Cohen said in a statement. “This constitutional amendment would expressly prohibit this and any future president, from abusing the pardon power.”
Now I’m sure our readers know the rationale for the electoral college, and it has not changed in the 230 years of the Constitution. What that would do is give Democrats a monopoly on political power by lessening the import of votes in more rural areas. They’ve been whining and bit**ing about this for months now. But they won’t get it passed and they know it:
The amendments are unlikely to pass since they require a two-thirds vote in both chambers of Congress and then must be ratified by three-fourths of the states.
Exactly. But they want to put up stupid bills just to keep their idiotic base riled up. It’s easier than actually finding a competent candidate that can compete with Trump in 2020, after all…
For those who need it, here’s a PragerU video on the electoral college:
