BMW i Andretti Motorsport suffered a moment of madness in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship race in Marrakesh as teammates Antonio Felix Da Costa and Alexander Sims crashed into each other and out of the race when cruising to a one-two victory. Jerome D’Ambrosio was the man to benefit as the Belgian was able to stand atop a podium for the first time in 46 races – his previous two victories coming after celebrations due to driver disqualifications.
The Envision Virgin Racing pair Robin Frijns and Sam Bird, who had qualified in pole, came in second and third while reigning champ Jean-Eric Vergne spun out on the very first corner – setting the tone for an instant classic of a race.
But the headlines will belong to Sims and Da Costa who kept the unpredictable nature of Formula E alive and well with a crash due to an attempted overtake causing hands on heads throughout the BMW garage.
