Childish Gambino's 'This is America' Wins Record of the Year
at 2019 Grammys Childish Gambino swept the
2019 Grammy Awards, winning
four of his five nominations. "This is America" won awards in three other categories: best music video, song of the year
and best rap/sung performance. The song beat out artists such as Drake, Post Malone, Brandi Carlile and The Carters. Released on May 5, 2018, "This is America" addresses gun violence and black oppression
in America through striking visuals
and allusive imagery. Co-producer Ludwig Göransson accepted
the award for record of the year, as Gambino
did not attend the award ceremony. During his acceptance speech, Göransson spoke about song, praising its strength and meaning. Ludwig Göransson, via 61st Annual Grammy Awards
