Snow leopard caught by locals after straying near village in north India

A snow leopard was caught by locals at a village in north India after it was driven towards the populated area by heavy snowfall last Friday (February 8).

After snow had buried the upper reaches of the Kalaroos area, in Kupwara, northern Kashmir state, a snow leopard entered the residential area to scavenge for food and was caught by locals.

Video of the scene shows locals carrying the snow leopard bound to a wooden stick by its legs. At one point it managed to snag one of the rescuer's shirts, but was disentangled safely.

The people carrying it were conveying the lost animal to the nearest wildlife department, which could not be accessed by vehicle as the roads were completely blocked by the snow, but ultimately it was brought
