Mexican Drug Lord El Chapo
Found Guilty on All Counts After a lengthy three month trial in
New York, all ten counts of indictment
against Joaquin Guzmán have received guilty verdicts. The Sinaloa cartel has been a notorious for
smuggling drugs into the United States and
causing brutal violence in Mexico. 61-year-old Guzmán ran the famed drug cartel
for decades until his final arrest in 2016. Prosecutors in New York mounted a substantial case against Guzmán that took 10-weeks to present. Judge Brian M. Cogan heard a total of 56 witness testimonies and was presented with hundreds of intercepted texts and surveillance evidence. Testimonies included devastating evidence of government bribery, murder and sexual assault. Guzmán will be officially sentenced
on June 25, most likely facing life in prison.
