The main opposition Liberty Korea Party has expelled one of the three party members who made highly disparaging comments about the country's 1980 Gwangju pro-democracy uprising.
After two-day ethics committee meetings, the party on Thursday dismissed Lee Jong-myeong .
It decided to put off disciplinary action on the two other representatives,... two-term lawmaker Kim Jin-tae and Kim Soon-rye .
That means the two will still be eligible to join the upcoming party convention on February 27th.
Both already announced their intention to run for the supreme party leadership.
Last week the trio sparked a firestorm when they referred to the family members of those who died during the uprising as a "monstrous group" formed by (quote-unquote) "pro-North Korea leftists" who were 'siphoning off taxpayers' money."
