A week before the second high-stakes summit between the leaders of North Korea and the U.S.,... South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump have vowed to continue to pressure the regime to eliminate its nuclear weapons program.
Also during their first phone conversation in months,... President Moon said Seoul is willing to upgrade inter-Korean joint projects to lessen the U.S. burden.

Yes, all of that and more was squeezed into a 35-minute phone conversation late last night during which President Moon Jae-in told President Trump that Seoul is willing to reopen economic engagement with North Korea as a quote, "concession"-but only if that will speed up denuclearization process.
The South Korean leader's exact words,… according to spokesperson,.. were (quote-unquote) "we are determined to take up the role if President Trump asks,… if that's the way to lessen the U.S. burden."
In other words,… President Moon hinted at the possibility that Seoul and Washington will share the pursuit of joint inter-Korean projects-something that begins with the lifting of the sanctions on the regime as a corresponding measure to its denuclearization progress.
This, Mark is the first time that the South Korean leader had floated the idea of economic concessions to boost the outcome of the Kim-Trump summit,… and the first since President Moon's overseas trip to Europe late last year, where he had called for European leaders' support in relieving sanctions.
And that also means Seoul is ready to undertake anything from the reconnecting rail and road connections between the divided Koreas to other joint projects like forestry and many more.
President Moon reportedly touted President Trump's leadership and firm resolve that has helped to ram through difficult negotiations with Pyeongyang,… as well as the ongoing progress between the two Koreas.

It sounds like a big offer from President Moon,... just seven days before the U.S. President sits down with Kim Jong-un in Hanoi
Do we know how President Trump responded to the offer?

Not yet, at least for now.
The Presidential corps in Seoul filed some of the follow-up questions to the spokesperson last night,... but we have yet to hear whether President Trump was open to President Moon's offer.
But we know President Trump expressed high hopes for the summit,... and he promised to exchange the details of the outcome and the follow-up measures with President Moon right after the summit,... and added he hopes to hold a face-to-face meeting with Moon to discuss the outcomes as well.
And a couple of hours ago at the White House-- Trump said he's in no rush to denuclearize North Korea, but he's ultimately pursuing that goal.
