Even as the clamour for speedy trial of rape cases is on the rise after the horror suffered by Damini, there exists an equally pathetic case of a seven-year-old who was raped and brutally murdered in Darbhanga in Bihar. Despite the accused being slapped with a death sentence in 2007, he is yet be executed.
The girl was raped and murdered on February 28, 2004 by a staff employed in her father's office, following which the accused was arrested. The lower court on seeing the brutality of the crime had sentenced the accused to death. By May 2007, the High Court and Supreme Court also upheld the death sentence. But four years have lapsed since then, but the accused is yet to be hanged.
