India News : Almost 8 years after the Maharashtra government banned bar dancers from performing in the city's bars, the Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the right of the bar dancers to pursue their profession after obtaining a licence from the state authorities. Maharashtra had banned dance bar performances in 2005.

Upholding the right of bar dancers, the apex court bench of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice S.S. Nijjar rejected the Maharashtra government's plea against the Bombay High Court verdict that struck down the police orders that banned dancing in hotels below three stars.
