In a tragic incident at least eight devotees, including three women and a one-and-a-half-year-old child, were killed in a stampede at a Shiva temple in the Junagadh district of Gujarat. The Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Lakhs of people had gathered for the annual 5 day fair on the eve of Mahashivaratri at Pagnala near Damodar Kund. Eyewitnesses say that at around 7 pm there was pushing and jostling on the narrow bridge that soon became a stampede. The chaos caused the boundary wall of the bridge to collapse with many people falling over. So far 8 people are reported dead and 12 injured. But the casualties could go up further.
