Putting a serious question mark on its image as a disciplined force, there was a mutiny in an Indian Army artillery regiment close to the China border. Army officers of a regiment posted at a forward base in Ladakh clashed with jawans. Officers of the 226 Field Regiment posted at Nyoma in eastern Ladakh, were involved in a scuffle with jawans of the same unit. Commenting on the situation, the Army headquarters described it as a scuffle due to administrative reasons and said that the incident is under investigation. But the fact remains that Nyoma is a strategic post located just 40 kilometers from the Chinese border. In fact top commanders have rushed to the unit to defuse the situation. And even as the Army tries to play down the incident, the Defence Ministry has asked for a report from the Army.
