NewsX@9 is a NewsX special show which debates the main news event of the day. A year after Anna Hazare's 13-day fast galvanized India's middle classes to mobilize against corruption -- making "Team Anna" members like Kiran Bedi, Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejriwal household names -- the 74-year-old social activist has disbanded the team. He believes the government has no intention of enacting the Lokpal bill, which calls for the creation of an anti-corruption ombudsman, and hence that efforts to persuade the government to come to the negotiating table through initiatives like fasts would be pointless. However, Hazare said he supports the idea of core Team Anna members forming a political party -- though he made it clear the he would not enter politics himself. He anticipated the future party would contest in the next general elections: "the 2014 elections are the right time for starting the creation of a corruption-free India. If not now, then never." So we debate today- Did the 'hijacking' of the Lokpal movement by Arvind Kejriwal disintegrate Anna's team? We debate the question on the show and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue. Watch this NewsX special NewsX@9.
