A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yogendra Yadav after he was detained for protesting outside the Tihar jail where AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal is lodged. The court ordered Yadav to be released on a personal bond of Rs 5,000.
The court said it was too early to judge whether the arrest was legal or illegal.
Yadav's counsel, Prashant Bhushan had argued that Yadav be released on personal surety or be discharged under section 59 of the CrPC because the arrest was illegal as there was no public atonement of the imposition of Section 144 of the CrPC as required under the law.
Kejriwal was sent to two-day judicial custody for refusing to pay a bail bond in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari. The next hearing in the case is on Friday.
