The UPA government gave away coal blocks to private players and refused them outright to government entities who would have mined the coal for government profit. NewsX has got exclusive access to documents which show that Coal India Ltd. had asked for 138 coal blocks from the coal ministry between 2008 and 2010 but not a single block was allocated. Another document shows that out of 4 PSU applications and 24 private companies' applications for 3 coal blocks in 2008 the allocations were made only to private players, and none to the PSUs.
