Air Force fighter MIG 21 plane crashes in Kutch, Pilot ejects to safety. The MIG 21 in India has earned the sobriquet of 'the flying coffin', though it has the distinction of being the first supersonic fighter jet to be inducted in the Indian Air Force in 1963. Over 350 of the nearly 800 inducted into the IAF have crashed killing nearly 170 pilots. The IAF is still compelled to fly the fighter till 2017 because of shortages of battle capable aircraft.
