Another defence deal is rocking India.The Italian police have arrested head of an Italian firm for bribing Indian officials in the Agusta helicopter deal. Defence Minister Antony has responded by ordering the CBI probe into the deal. News of the alleged corruption in Agusta's 750 million dollar sale of 12 helicopters to the IAF first emerged in Italian news reports. The company is accused of paying Indian officials almost 500 cr in bribes. Arrest of Giuseppe Orsi the co-CEO and chairman of the Finmeccanica group - and placing of three other executives under house arrest has ignited a political furor in Italy and India. There are also indications that the Defence ministry may cancel the deal which has an integrity clause. The deal is also becoming a huge issue in Italy's upcoming parliamentary elections on February 24th.
