West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached out to Vice Chancellor following violence in the Presidency University campus. Mamata said she was devastated by the vandalism and assured her of all support, saying the prestigious education institution was "our dream project." The Vice Chancellor Malabika Sarkar, and the students said that on Wednesday, a group of at least 100 people, carrying weapons and flags of Trinamool Congress, thrashed and threatened students and teachers.
