Vijay Rupani, on Friday, was named the new Chief Minister of Gujarat, after Anandiben Patel, 74, had resigned on Monday, stirring up debates. Nitin Patel, as opposed to earlier rumours of being elected the head of state, was named the Deputy Chief Minister.Rupani, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, will serve as the Gujarat CM for less than one and a half years before assembly elections are held in the state.He was inducted as minister in the first cabinet expansion by Gujarat Chief Minister, Anandiben Patel and currently is in charge of transport, water supply, labor and employment minister.
