Spelling fresh trouble for Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recommended an income tax probe into assets owned by his wife and younger son.
The CBI on 20 September formally closed an investigation into assets held by the Uttar Pradesh leader but found the value of certain properties owned by his wife Sadhana and son Prateek Yadav to be disproportionate to their sources of income, a senior agency official said on Wednesday.
The main case, relating to assets worth Rs.2.63 crore owned by Mulayam Singh Yadav and dating back to 2007, was closed because of insufficient evidence. In December, the Supreme Court had ordered that Yadav's daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav should not be investigated. She is the wife of Yadav's elder son and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
