With demand and supply of onions in wholesale markets going haywire, the prices of onions in retail markets have skyrocketed. But there are plenty of other "onion stories" doing the rounds.
Stories such as onions are being exported; onions are being hoarded; returning monsoon has killed the onion; water logging made it impossible to harvest onion; water brought insects which infected the crop.
Then there's the states' stories. That of states which grow onion. And that of states which grow very less, but buy from "onion states". Onion buying states blame the onion states and vice-versa. All in all, it's one big onion mess.
