Trapped in the messy vortex of Seemandhra and Telangana, the hapless Congress is now battling multiple fronts within and outside the party. At the same time they are struggling to salvage the remnants of its political existence in the state that sealed its fate in the general elections in 2004 and 2009. Though the party might have figured the electoral math out, but it is faced with a bigger challenge - dealing with the discontent within the party.

"The party has become a hostage to the divisive forces. The problem is if we quit Congress, nothing is going to stop. We want to tell the party leadership that whatever they are doing is not correct. It will harm everyone," Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal told during a panel discussion, giving the Seemandhra perspective. Rajagopal is from the Congress faction that wants to keep Andhra Pradesh united. However, the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi was not in consonance with this view from a section of the Congress party. "Does it look good when the chief minister is not seeking a peaceful resolution and going on a dharna and fighting his own party ranks? All must understand that this is not division of the people. This is a division for geographical and administrative reasons. They are making it as if it is a break away from the country. Both Kiran Kumar Reddy and Congress are trying to back stab the people," said TRS MLA KT Rama Rao. Not relenting on his attack, he said, "The Congress is trying to play to the gallery. Kiran Kumar Reddy even tried to mislead the President when he went to meet him with 100 MLAs. Have you realised that there was not a single MLA from Telangana. This is rant political opportunism by all parties including the BJP and Telegudesam Party."
