Is the United States doing a rethink on ending its nine-year boycott of Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi? A Hindustan Times report has claimed that US ambassador to India Nancy Powell will meet the Gujarat Chief Minister later this week.

The report says that a US embassy spokesman has confirmed the appointment. The report suggests that the meeting, likely to be held in Gandhinagar, can take place on February 14 or 15.
Reports suggest, however, that the US cannot offer a visa to Modi during the election campaign, as it might be accused of trying to influence Indian domestic politics. It has said in the recent past that he is free to apply for a visa, like any other applicant.
