A day after Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha struck an alliance with the Communist Party of India (CPI) for the national election, her All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party stitched a partnership with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, as well.
The announcement, made in a press briefing on Monday by CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and Jayalalithaa in Chennai, added momentum to the formation of a so-called Third Front—a non-Congress, non-Bharatiya Janata Party grouping.
