The CBI on Wednesday informed the Bombay high court that prior government sanction was indeed required to prosecute former chief minister Ashok Chavan in the Adarsh case as he was a sitting MLA and revenue minister when the alleged offences were attributed to him.
As a public servant, Chavan's prosecution required sanction, CBI counsel Hiten Venegaonkar told the HC in reply to a query from Justice Sadhana Jadhav who specifically asked if a sanction was required to prosecute Chavan.
