Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial nominee, has courted another controversy while addressing a rally in Faizabad, a town less than five kilometres from Ayodhya. Modi addressed the rally with the backdrop of the image of lord Ram.
He also invoked Ram's name while making a pitch for the BJP. He said that the people of Faizabad should allow a lotus to bloom in the "land of Shri Ram".
The Uttar Pradesh Election Commission sources have said that the EC has sought a report from the Faizabad office on Modi's rally. Usage of religious symbols is banned during election campaigns.
