BJP MLA Sangeet Som, who was accused of sparking off the Muzaffarnagar riots, has been arrested on his way to Moradabad from Lucknow. Som and other party workers intended to hold a mahapanchayat in Lucknow.

"Sources say the BJP did not get the permission to hold the mahapanchayat. However, BJP workers marched towards the venue and were detained. BJP MPs Satyapal Singh and Nepal Singh have also been detained enroute to Moradabad."
