All eyes are now fixed on the proposed meeting between Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state election incharge Om Mathur, scheduled for Friday night or early Saturday morning and expected to decide the future of Sena-BJP alliance.

Responding to Sena's offer of 119 seats, BJP said it wants 130 seats while Sena will contest 149 and nine will be for other allies. "Talks were positive, but we have made it clear that Sena's formula is not acceptable. We have responded with our own formula, and are expecting the Sena to accept it," state BJP president Devendra Fadnavis told Mirror. BJP leaders also made it clear that if Sena sticks to its guns, they would be left with no option but to sever ties and go it alone in the polls.

The ground for this key meeting, though, was laid by the Sena chief's son Aditya, after Uddhav surprised everyone by calling up senior BJP leaders on Friday evening to tell them that the Yuva Sena chief, accompanied by Sena leaders Subhash Desai and Anil Desai, would meet Mathur at a common friend's residence on Pedder Road - a first change in the talks venue from Matoshree.

Following the meeting, BJP and Sena agreed their top leaders should meet once to iron out differences. Sources from both parties said Uddhav and Mathur will take a final call on the alliance's fate, which has touched an all-time low.

Party leaders indicated the meeting with Uddhav could prove to be conclusive, and there is also a possibility that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak to Uddhav during the meeting and push for keeping the alliance alive.
