The arm twisting tactics of the Truckers Association seems to have worked. After NGT stayed its order banning vehicles over 10 year old from plying on Delhi roads, the Transport Ministry has now assured the Truckers Association that it would approach the Supreme Court and seek an extension of 6 more months. The govt has cited practical difficulties in enforcing the ban. If the supreme court accepts centre's contentions, Delhi will be forced to breathe in 6 more months of toxic pollutants. Delhi transport association remains adamant. president demands 2 years to phase out old vehicles.
