The Maharashtra state transport department has decided to issue new one lakh autorickshaw permits but it has a rider. The condition is that the applicant must know Marathi and should be domicile resident of the state. The shocking diktat came from none other than the state transport minister Diwakar Raote. Raote a former mayor of Mumbai and a hard-core Shiv Sainik, has always insisted on the use of Mcongress-NCP government, he had once forcibly removed a nameplate put up outside the state chief secretary’s office because it was not in Marathi. However the opposition has termed the move unconstitutional.
