The 2004 Olympic men's table tennis champion Ryu Seung-min has been elected onto the executive committee of the International Table Tennis Federation.
Ryu was elected unanimously for the position at the federation's Annual General Meeting in Budapest on Monday. His term as the 11th member of the committee runs through 2024.
He is the first Korean elected onto the ITTF executive committee since Han Sang-kook in 2008.
Ryu said that his election has more significance with the 2020 World Table Tennis Championships taking place next year in Busan. He also added that he will try to bring the two Koreas together at the championships.
