Ceropegia vincaefolia is a fast growing; twining species is a member of the not succulent representatives of its genus. It belongs to family Asclepiadaceae (Milkweed family).The leaves is quite large and heart-shaped. The flowers are similar to those of Ceropegia juncea, they stand in groups in an umbel, which arises from a conspicuously pinkish, hairy stalk. They are quite large; the flower-tube is of a plain light colour in the lower part, spotted purple in the upper part. The united petals are greenish in the lower half; heavily purple in the upper half. The people from the Pawara resp. Pawra tribe, which lives in the Nandurbar District of the state of Maharashtra, know the species under the name Khottya (Pawiri or Pawri) and consume its tubers as vegetable. It is known as Kandil Kharchudi in Marathi whereas In Kerala this plant is called Palancheera. Unfortunately this species is threatened with extinction.
Zingiber neesanum/diwakarianum else known as Neesam Ginger is a tuberous herb, growing to 1 m tall which belongs to family Zingiberaceae (Ginger family). Tubers lie horizontally. Leafy stem is red, and covered with velvety hairs. Stalkless green leaves, 12-30 cm long, are lance-like, pointed and smooth. Flowers occur in long cylindrical spikes, 15-30 cm long. Flowers are yellow, with 3 petals. The lip is yellow with purple lines. Bracts are 3 cm long, obovate, sharp-tipped, reddish.
Kas/Kaas Plateau is a lateritic soil plateau on the ridge of North Western Ghats of India located to the west of Satara, Maharashtra. Kas plateau has only a shallow upper layer soil in scattered depressions and composed of exposed porous soft rock. The plateau is filled with small rivulets and ponds. The origin of its name 'Kaas' is still unclear yet this was once home to 'kaasa' plants Elaeocarpus. Probably the place got its name from the 'Kaasa' plant. Kas Plateau is recently recognised by UNESCO as a world natural heritage site. The flora on Kas plateau consists of herbaceous plants many of them being ephemerals dotted with clumps of shrubs, memecylon being the dominant species. The floral extravaganza at Kas begins with the advent of North West monsoon. The spectacle of Kas flowers has been unfolding each year after surviving through annual grazing and burning, yet Kaas is threatened by the insurgence of thousands of visitors thronging the plateau on peak flowering days. Satara is a city located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India. The town is 2320 ft. above sea-level, near the confluence of the Krishna and its tributary river Venna. The city was the capital of the Maratha empire in the 17th century, hence one of the historical cities of Maharashtra. This city is the capital of Satara Tehsil, as well as Satara District.
