Saturday marks the one year anniversary of the signing of the Panmunjeom Declaration. South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have since met twice more.
Our Kan Hyeong-woo sheds light on the possibility of a fourth inter-Korean summit.
Although talks between Pyeongyang and Washington have come to an apparent standstill,... prospects seem brighter for a fourth inter-Korean summit.
With South Korean President Moon Jae-in aiming to play a key role in bringing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Trump together,... some experts say a meeting is likely to take place in May.
"Chairman Kim asked President Moon for a meeting before the second Panmujeom summit last year. This time, it's Kim's turn to answer the call from Moon. So I think the chances of another Moon-Kim summit in May are pretty high."
Some experts say that by Moon taking on the role of mediator,... the chance for the resumption of talks between Pyeongyang and Washington remains.
However, others cite this exact reason as why another inter-Korean summit in the near future is unlikely.
"Possibility for inter-Korean summit is low in my opinion. North Korea has been very critical of South Korea. For example, Kim Jong-un demanded South Korea stop acting as mediator between North Korea and the United States."
While Seoul may be eager to hold talks,... Pyeongyang seems set on strengthening diplomacy with its allies... holding a North Korea-Russia summit for the first time in eight years.
Eyes will remain on the Korean Peninsula in the coming months,... where the stage could be set for a turning point in the denuclearization and peace process.
