In domestic politics, plans to put key reform bills on fast-track have fallen through at the National Assembly.
Two parliamentary committees on Friday attempted to give fast-track status to four bills,... including one on electoral reform,... and another to create an independent body to investigate corruption among high ranking public officials -- but failed on fierce resistance from the main opposition Liberty Korea Party.
Four parties,... without the main opposition -- agreed to fast-track the bills -- a tool that prevents bills without bipartisan support from being held up for long.
Attempts to fast-track the bills triggered a serious physical standoff.
The Liberty Korea Party says the election law has always been revised on bipartisan agreement,... but the four parties pushed ahead, as parliament has to finalize the electoral map ahead of next year's general elections.
It appears the parties will devise plans as to how they will proceed over the weekend.
