U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to declare a national emergency to protect U.S. companies over threats against American technology.
The White House on Wednesday said the move is to (quote)"protect America from foreign adversaries who are actively and increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in information and telecommunications technology infrastructure and services in the United States."
Although The executive order will effectively bar U.S. firms doing business with Chinese telecom company Huawei and its efforts to expand into critical 5G market.
The executive order has reportedly been in the works for more than a year.
